Industry Spotlight: Agriculture

Huron County is one of the most agriculturally productive parts of Ontario. It enjoys a long history of successful agricultural development, and is a leader in the production of soybeans, corn, and hogs. Huron County is also emerging as a hub for the production of niche crops for specialty markets, and is home to a rapidly growing cluster of wineries and breweries.

Industry Spotlight: Manufacturing

Manufacturing is a pillar of Huron County’s economy. From wood and metal fabrication to high-tech machine shops and large foundries, the diversity of Huron County’s industry has been a source of strength for decades.

Much of our manufacturing base supports of compliments our robust agricultural sector. Existing and emerging food processors lead the way in innovation and in the development of new economic opportunities and markets. Other firms are tightly integrated with the supply chains of some of Ontario’s biggest industrial operations, including the automotive sector.

Centre for Employment & Learning

With office locations in Clinton, Exeter, Goderich, Seaforth, and Wingham, The Centre for Employment & Learning offer a variety of programs and services to welcome and support adults and youth as they develop and fulfill their unique employment and learning goals, including:

Employment Services – comprehensive employment preparation and job search services, access information about new careers, help in maintaining employment, support for developing on-the-job training plans.

Better Jobs Ontario – up to $28,000 for skills training and financial support for laid-off workers.

Canada-Ontario Job Grant
 – up to $10,000 for individual employers to deliver short-term training for their employees.

Reach for Success – available to support youth ages 15-30, who are not currently in full-time education to gain the skills required to experience success in the workplace.

Skills Upgrading – upgrade skills for employment, apprenticeship or college, get ready for high school credits, and learn new skills to improve well-being through in-person, customized training plan.

Academic Upgrading – offers a wide variety of Independent Study courses that may be applied towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).  Other services include assessing high school transcripts, Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition, free tutoring available.

The LearningHUB

The LearningHUB is a free, online Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program for English speaking adults in Ontario. They can help upgrade skills, build confidence, and prepare for testing and promotions.

Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program

The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program is a specialized program in high school that allows you to explore apprenticeship and consider careers in the skilled trades, generally starting in Grade 11 or Grade 12 through the cooperative education program.
